Dryer Condensate Pumps

A dryer condensate drain pump (also called a condensation pump or drain pump) is a small electric pump used in ventless condenser tumble or heat pump dryers.

Condenser dryers do not vent hot, moist air outside like traditional vented dryers. Instead, they pass the moist air through a heat exchanger (condenser) where moisture condenses into liquid water. This water collects in a reservoir or sump at the bottom of the machine.

The condensate pump then pumps the water into a drain or collection tank.

Common Problems:

Clogging/blockages — Lint, hair, fabric fibers, or mineral deposits (from hard water) block the pump impeller, inlet, or discharge line.

Failure to run or pump — Worn motor, failed bearings, or electrical issues. The pump may hum but not move water, or it may not activate.

Leaks — From cracked housing, loose connections, or overflow due to a blocked discharge path. Water may appear under the dryer.

Noise — Grinding, buzzing, or droning from debris in the impeller or failing bearings.

Intermittent operation or dryer errors — Leads to poor drying (clothes remain damp) even if the dryer heats, as moisture isn’t properly removed.
